Three-step Dynamic
Stereo Sampling (DSS) Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) tone generation
Advanced Wave Memory (AWM)
tone generation samples each instrument to generate a truly accurate
sound, varying the volume and timbre of sound according to the touch
on the keyboard. Three-step AWM takes this farther, to assure a
warmer, more natural sound, with Dynamic Stereo Sampling (DSS) piano
samples. These samples are recorded at different levels, from from
loud to soft, so that differences in volume and timbre occur
depending on how heavy or light the player's touch is. By using
sound picked up by a microphone to create a "virtual soundboard,"
the keyboard assures an expansive, more natural sound.
Stereo sustain
samples, key-off samples and string resonance
Stereo sustain samples
recreate the resonances of the strings and soundboard when the
damper pedal is pressed. This resonance is one of the factors that
gives a grand piano such a unique sound. Key-off samples provide the
delicate sound keys make when they are released. String resonance
samples provide the complex resonances that make acoustic piano
sound so rich and full.
Instrumental Active
Field Control (iAFC)
iAFC uses a microphone to
pick up the sound of a room, then interpolates that sound with the
piano samples, adapting the sound to the acoustics of the room, and
providing an authentic damper effect. The difference in the sound is
immediately noticeable.
88-key Natural Wood
Keyboard
The Natural Keyboard uses
real wooden keys like those found in acoustic pianos. And just like
an acoustic piano, the key weighting gets progressively lighter
higher up on the keyboard, for a feel that is virtually
indistinguishable from that of an acoustic piano. Sensors under the
hammers and cushions process damper on/off and hammer velocity
information accurately interpreting the performance of even the most
demanding pianist.
128+128-note
polyphony
Conventional digital pianos
quickly run out of notes during fast, dense legato passages:
sustained notes are cut off as the instrument "steals" notes to make
room for new notes. 128-note polyphony allows 96 notes to be played
at once.
640 x 480 dot VGA
color LCD
A 640x480 large color LCD
display provides useful, easy to understand graphics and helpful
messages for quick access and error-free operation.
338 Regular Voices
Besides incredibly realistic
piano voices, the keyboard includes new Mega Voices, as well as
Sweet!, Live!, Cool! and Natural! Voices for an unparalleled sonic
palette.
38 Natural! Voices
Natural! Voices take
advantage of spacious computer memory to assure incredibly faithful
reproduction of instrument sounds.
14 Sweet! Voices
Sweet! Voices provide
delicate nuances, such as the vibrato of wind and brass instruments.
19 Cool! Voices
Cool! Voices reproduce the
subtlest shades of the original sound of electric instruments.
22 Live! Voices
Live! Voices provide stereo
samples that capture the unique characteristics of acoustic
instruments.
Ten Organ Flutes!
Voices (nine footages)
Build custom organ sounds
with the Organ Flutes! Voices. Drawbars appear in the large LCD, for
quick and easy adjustment of flute volume, attack/chiff, length and
percussive key click, just like on a vintage organ.
Ten Mega Voices
Most digital keyboards
create their sound from recording or sampling instruments. When keys
are pressed, samples play back. Previous to Mega Voice Technology,
an instrument's pitch was recorded at different increments (C, C#,
D, D#, etc.). This method does not capture the subtle nuances that
make an instrument sound unique. Yamaha Mega Voice technology
captures these missing instrument qualities. On a guitar for
instance, players will hear open and mute string sounds, dead notes,
hammering effects, slide effects, harmonics and a wide range of
strum and body noises. In technical terms, Mega Voice duplicates an
instrument's behavior. In sonic terms, this gives the keyboard
stunningly realistic sounds.
General MIDI (GM) +
XG Format
Yamaha's XG adds to the 128
voices of General MIDI (GM) by adding hundreds of other voices. In
addition, XG lets you control a wide range of other parameters
including harmonic content of voices, reverb, and other effects from
a sequencer or another XG keyboard, for maximum control.
Sound Creator
Sound Creator allows voices
to be modified easily, with parameters easily adjustable from
buttons on the keyboard.
386 Accompaniment
Styles
Accompaniment Styles back up
playing with dynamically responsive accompaniments that follow the
keyboardist. Multiple styles are provided, each arranged and
programmed by top professional musicians, with multiple variations,
intros, endings, and fill-ins. The built-in Music Finder offers an
extensive range of music styles with pre-programmed voices and
effects setups. Search for suitable styles by music, style, genre,
keyword, tempo and beat. Whatever your selected style, Music Finder
finds the most suitable instruments and effects, all carefully
chosen by professional musicians.
Style Creator
Create rhythm and
accompaniment styles and save them internally or on floppy disk.
Start from scratch or modify one of the existing styles.
16-track recording
Use the built-in song
recorder with up to 16 tracks to create complex, multi-part
arrangements one instrument at a time. After recording, save to the
internal memory, which retains data even when the power is switched
off, on a floppy disk, or to a PC.
Digital reverb and
digital effects
The built-in digital reverb
simulates the way sound is reflected from the floor, walls and
ceiling to add more depth and life to the sounds of the Clavinova.
Chorus, tremolo, symphonic and delay effects add greater richness
and harmonic content to any voice. The brilliance effect makes it
possible to continuously adjust the timbre of a voice, from mellow
for laid-back jazz piano, to bright for "cutting" rock piano.
Master digital EQ
Fine-tune the overall sound
with the built-in, Five-band digital equalization. Store custom EQ
curves in the registration memory for recall at any time.
Dual mode and split
mode
Dual mode allows two voices
to be played side-by-side. For instance, strings and piano can be
combined. When playing staccato, the piano voice is heard. Playing
legato will generate string tones, adding depth to the performance.
Split mode allows two separate instruments to be played at once, one
with the left hand and one with the right, providing a "duet"
effect. Simply choose the instruments. For example, bass can be
assigned to the left hand and jazz piano to the right.
Vocal Harmony
Vocal harmony adds depth and
texture to the human voice. It's perfect for karaoke: just plug in a
microphone, load a karaoke floppy disk, and start singing.
