CLP 175 Features

New Three-step Dynamic Stereo Sampling Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) tone generation

Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) tone generation samples each instrument to generate a truly accurate sound, varying the volume and timbre of sound according to the touch on the keyboard. Three-step AWM takes this farther, to assure a warmer, more natural sound, with Dynamic Stereo Sampling (DSS) piano samples. These samples are recorded at different levels, from from loud to soft, so that differences in volume and timbre occur depending on how heavy or light the player's touch is.

Stereo sustain samples, key-off samples and string resonance

Stereo sustain samples recreate the resonances of the strings and soundboard when the damper pedal is pressed. This resonance is one of the factors that gives a grand piano such a unique sound. Key-off samples provide the delicate sound keys make when they are released. String resonance samples provide the complex resonances that make acoustic piano sound so rich and full.

New Instrumental Active Field Control (iAFC) System

iAFC uses a microphone to pick up the sound of a room, then interpolates that sound with the piano samples, adapting the sound to the acoustics of the room, and providing an authentic damper effect. The difference in the sound is immediately noticeable.

Dynamic Damper Effect (DDE)

DDE recreates the subtle resonances that occur when you the damper pedal is pressed down on a grand piano. The DDE sends a discrete set of samples out from the rear speakers of the Clavinova to create a clear sense of depth in sound.

Spatial Ensemble Effect (SEE)

The SEE reproduces the reverberations and resonances of a real stage performance for a more spacious, natural sound. With a microphone, the same effect can be added to the sound of an accompanying musician to create the dynamic atmosphere of a live duet performance. This "Stage" effect also works for musicians who sing as they play.

Natural Soundboard (NSB)

By using sound picked up by a microphone to create a "virtual soundboard," NSB assures an expansive, more natural sound.

88-key Graded Hammer (GH) Natural Keyboard

The Natural Keyboard uses real wooden keys like those found in acoustic pianos. And just like an acoustic piano, the key weighting gets progressively lighter higher up on the keyboard, for a feel that is virtually indistinguishable from that of an acoustic piano. Sensors under the hammers and cushions process damper on/off and hammer velocity information accurately interpreting the performance of even the most demanding pianist.

Extended 128-note polyphony (max.)

Conventional digital pianos quickly run out of notes during fast, dense legato passages: sustained notes are cut off as the instrument "steals" notes to make room for new notes. 128-note polyphony allows 128 notes to be played at once.

480 XG voices

XG voices go past MIDI to provide a rich set of synthesis options, with hundreds of different instruments to choose from.

16-track song recorder with 223 song capacity

Use the built-in song recorder with up to 16 tracks to create complex, multi-part arrangements one instrument at a time. After recording, save to the internal memory, which retains data even when the power is switched off, on a floppy disk, or to a PC.

Digital reverb and digital effects

The built-in digital reverb simulates the way sound is reflected from the floor, walls and ceiling to add more depth and life to the sounds of the Clavinova. Chorus, tremolo, symphonic and delay effects add greater richness and harmonic content to any voice. The brilliance effect makes it possible to continuously adjust the timbre of a voice, from mellow for laid-back jazz piano, to bright for "cutting" rock piano.

Dual mode

Dual mode allows two voices to be played side-by-side. For instance, strings and piano can be combined. When playing staccato, the piano voice is heard. Playing legato will generate string tones, adding depth to the performance.

Split mode

Split mode allows two separate instruments to be played at once, one with the left hand and one with the right, providing a "duet" effect. Simply choose the instruments. For example, bass can be assigned to the left hand and jazz piano to the right.

50 built-in demonstration piano songs with sheet music

Listening to and studying demonstration songs make it easy to learn to use the features of a Clavinova. Sheet music for the built-in demonstration songs is included.

Download music software with Scorch™

Scorch is a cutting-edge technology from music software developers that lets keyboardists purchase desired selections by downloading from the www.yamahamusicsoft.com website at the click of a mouse. Download MIDI song data and music score data as a set, display the score on a PC's monitor or print it out, and have the CLP play the song.

Metronome with five language counts

In addition to a regular metronome sound, human voice tempo indications are available in five different languages. Human voices often help young students keep track of tempo.

Seven temperaments

Choose from the selection of seven temperaments (Equal, Pure Major, Pure Minor, Pythagorean, Mean Tone, Werckmeister and Kirnberger) to match the period of the music, or to experiment in a modern context.

Internal Flash ROM for song memory

The large internal song memory records and stores multiple songs. What's more, song data remains in memory even after you switch power off.

Floppy disk drive

The floppy disk drive allows performances to be stored and provides access to an extra 480 built-in voices via XG, Yamaha's extension of the General MIDI standard. In addition, commercially-available floppies containing XG song data into the floppy disk drive can be played back via floppy disks.

MIDI connectivity

Full MIDI connectivity makes it easy to connect to other MIDI devices or PCs. Use PC sequencing software, play back songs downloaded from the Internet, move MIDI files to the PC for emailing, and more.

PC interface (USB and TO HOST)

Connect the keyboard to a Windows or Macintosh personal computer via the PC interface using a single cable, without the need for costly additional hardware. The PC interface makes it possible to download the Clavinova's voices and store them in your PC, and allows 3rd-party sequencing and music instruction programs to work with the Clavinova.

CD-ROM with USB driver, file utility and software samples

An included CD-ROM provides everything needed to connect the Clavinova to a Windows or Macintosh personal computer. After installation, music can be downloaded from the Internet and dragged and dropped directly onto the Clavinova.

Dual headphone jacks and headphones hanger

All the new Clavinovas come with a music rest and a headphones hanger. For extra convenience, the CLP-175/170/150 also feature new music clips for securing music books and scores.

Music rest with music clips

The music rest and music clips make it easy to secure music books and scores.

Three foot pedals with half pedal effect

Three foot pedals function exactly as they do on an acoustic piano. Pitch bend and continuously variable sustain can be adjusted with the right pedal.

Classic polished ebony finish

The sculpted contours and polished ebony finish of this Clavinova add a touch of class to any room. Styled in the shape of a real grand piano, the wooden cabinet is finished with an attractive back frame and rim.

Sliding key cover

A sliding key cover protects the keyboard when not in use.

60W x 2 + 20W x 2 amplifier

Powerful amplification with clear, crisp sound.
